Porto Azurro

There seriously is not a bad beach on Zakynthos. Traveling south down the peninsula we pass so many gorgeous shorelines and settle in a new beach--Porto Azurro, the "most beautiful beach" on Zakynthos a local tells us.

It's more of a resort, another Greek wedding amongst the lush greens along the shore. Sparrows drink delicately out of a spigot. A determined to crawl up the stairs, his family watching and enouraging him to make it to the top. Everyone and everything on the beach is happy.

Doze on the beach. Eat and drink. Wade in the waves with friends. Venture out to snorkel, but waters a bit too choppy. Hold a delicate sea star in my palm. A sacred moment in the Ionian Sea.

Lookout onto the beach from above. Endless umbrellas. Endless peace.

Greek food. Greek wine on Zakynthos--a little piece of heaven, really I mean It

We all know food tastes better when you're someplace new or with the people you love. Or completely free of stress. Well, all those things were true on Zakynthos.

But really, the food was just PERFECTION.

And we enjoyed every bite (and added an equal number pounds upon our return home!)

Melon was a must...and tasted even sweeter at the top of the world!

Already told you about the Loukomades (Greek donuts) but I'm telling you again that they are the most delicious thing I've EVER eaten!

Porto Roxa: Love at first sight

We find another hidden gem just south of Limniosas. An inlet even more stunning, peaceful and less crowded. Porto Roxa. We first meet Stelios, who runs the Sunset Tavern. A veggie omelette on the sunbeds. Relaxation in the gorgeous sea. High jump and float (water is so salty!) as the bright, warm sun shines down on us like a gift. It's all a gift of the most beautiful kind.

Nova spots the first octopus ever (out of all our snorkeling adventures) and we now belong to the "Octopus Club!" It's evening and he's perfectly camouflaged. We wait and watch as he swims out of a little crevice, his tentacles and arms flowing like silk. He's stealth and shy and perfect. Such a treasure in this magic place.


We watch several soccer games at Sunset Tavern.

Nova meets Cici the dog and it's love at first sight. Cici even has her own table and tip jar!

Guess you could say that about Zakynthos and it's big Greek ocean.

Limniosas

It's the depths of this beach that astound. Breathtaking depths of azure and emerald. An ocean that calls out to your soul. Beckons you to become one with sacred water. 

Thanks so Debbie's love for mousaka, we have now begun calling the perfect, god-like Greek man at each beach, Mr. Mousaka (sorry, no pictures available!)
